Heads up! Read the new MOTD on Fnord for some information on the OS
upgrade that PrismNet is putting in. Fnord and Eris are both getting moved
to FreeBSD 6.2 and geting some incremental software changes as well.
Backup your code and your scripts and get ready to test and/or to
complain.

Well, I can't connect at all today. After I enter my password my Putty
client crashes. Calling Prismnet doesn't help because they've figured out
that if you leave somebody on hold long enough, eventually they'll give up.

Can anyone suggest a possible change I could make in my Putty config that
would enable me to connect?

Now that xemacs is up and running, I'm weeding out the bugs in
converting from .emacs...

I asked them to install emacs yesterday, and they've done so.

Thank you, admins.

I'll second that, even though I'm still wading through documentation
for setting the fill-column in Gnus under xemacs. (It seems to be
defaulting to 74, despite my having had mine set at 78 for several
years, by now.)

I'll third the thanks in public. As an FYI to everybody who reads here
still, note that a lot of installed apps didn't get converted over to the
same version under the new OS. In particular, trn is running at 3.5
instead of 4.X, which means that it doesn't use the trnrc file or reliably
read environment variables. The admins I've talked to so far have been
really helpful and willing to listen, so don't anybody be afraid to speak
up if you need something from them.

Woohoo!

My biggest problem now is that none of the ssh programs I use
on DOS will connect to io.com. I finally was able to log in from
an AIX box at work. Anyone know of a DOS ssh that works with IO?

Thanks,

What SSH program are you using? It's worth nothing that the certificates
have been updated, so you might have to clear that data and reload it as a
fresh connection. Your DOS client might be rejecting the connection out of
hand and not giving you the ability to manually validate the updated cert.

-KKC, who uses Putty and OpenSSH and they both run fine...

I'm using an emulator called S-Term that has ssh(1 and 2) built-in.
I'll see if I can locate the certificate data and also find a copy of
OpenSSH. Thanks for the info.

Or I could just post the bloody download link:

Followup today. It looks like trn has been updated back to version 4.0,
which supports the use of the trnrc and the environment variables set in
the local profile. This is effective on fnord, and looks like on eris as
well.

Just a disclaimer, I'm not an Prismnet representative. Just one of the
loudmouth users that complains a lot. :)
